Across the world, social work is an important career for any society. If you are interested in this industry, here are some free courses to get you started.

While the highest qualification in social work is a doctoral degree, most social workers are at least university graduates and mainly female. Among the largest employers of social workers is the United Nations Organisation.

However, there are many thousands of NGOs who are on the constant lookout for social workers. Not only is this a rewarding career in emotional terms but pays quite well too.

Additionally, it provides opportunities to travel the world and learn so many cultures. For those who are not keen on travel there are opportunities in the areas of substance use, mental health, foster care and corporate social responsibility, among others.

Human Rights, Human Wrongs – Challenging Poverty, Vulnerability and Social Exclusion

This course has been developed by the SDG Academy and mainly addresses the injustices towards women, children and indigenous groups.

The course goes into subjects such as the establishment of human rights related to global issues in sustainable development, the legal frameworks and the barriers that prevent rights from becoming a reality.

The length of the course is eleven weeks and shall require an effort of two to four hours each week. This is mainly targeted towards university graduates and post graduates.

 

The Challenges of Global Poverty

According to economists by 2065 global poverty will be a thing of the past. However, for the present it remains a major threat towards global development.

This course requiring an effort of 12 to 14 hours per week shall take 11 weeks to complete and is developed by non other than MIT.
