AWiM Africa Environment Reporting Programme 2022

African Women in the Media
African Women in the Media

African Women in the Media (AWiM) is looking for submissions for stories that are solution-focused and highlight the gendered aspects of environmental concerns in Africa. The organisation is  especially interested in in-depth stories that investigate environmental solutions with a focus on any of the 12 components of the African Green Stimulus Program. Journalists might also stress on the implications of the Covid-19 outbreak on ecosystems, biodiversity, conservation, waste management, and other concerns relating to Africa’s larger environmental difficulties that affect women. Pitches that focus on stories that have received little attention are preferred. So keep an eye out for themes that offer distinct gendered perspectives on environmental difficulties.

African Women in the Media (AWiM) is a global network for African women working in media sectors. The goal is to positively affect how media operates in regard to women, with the hope of one day having equal participation in media industries for women of African descent. AWiMNews provides information concerning women’s rights and media. AWiMNews promotes the connection of women’s rights and the media, addressing the obvious issue of insufficient coverage of African women’s rights and concerns in media discourse.

There is no proposed deadline for the program.

  • Applicants must be women journalists based in any country in Africa.
  • For the purposes of this reporting grant opportunity, we will only be accepting applications in English. You must either have a working understanding of English or be able to translate your work.
